Currently 68 college basketball teams from the Division I level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), play to determine the national championship winning team. Created in 1939 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, the tournament was the idea of Ohio State University coach Harold Olsen. Played during March, it is more commonly referred to as March Madness or the Big Dance, and is one of the most popular annual sporting events in the USA.
